I’m often asked, “how did you grow your online business so fast?”
I have to admit, I’m extremely grateful for the growth I’ve seen in my business and It’s been a fun ride over the past few years.
I’ve learned from so many great minds about how to build a business and grow a business online, and I’m finally going to be sharing everything I’ve done in a live online workshop with CreativeLive on November 30th – December 2nd.
My buddy Chase Jarvis approached me about teaching this course earlier this year, and I’m happy that it’s finally coming to fruition.
To learn more about the course make sure to sign up here (it’s free if you watch it live).
I’ll be covering everything you need to know about growing an online business, and the ins and outs on how to do this anywhere in the world from your laptop. Sounds fun, right?
We are looking for six guests to come into the studio live with me to get some one on one coaching so I can help you launch your online business. If you are interested in participating, make sure to watch the video above for details and we will choose the winners soon.
What questions or concerns do you have about launching an online business? Post your comments below as I’ll be addressing a number of them at the live workshop.
I just got home from an inspiring three week trip to the Olympics and capped it off with a private meeting in NYC with some great online marketers at Inc Magazine HQ that Stu McLaren from Wishlist hosted.
The social media inspiration keept on coming as the first thing I saw in my inbox was an email from HootSuite saying I received $100 free credit from them for Twitter advertising.
I’ll be honest. I’m a big fan of HootSuite and the work Ryan Holmes does there and I’ve been using them since shortly after they launched. To see that Twitter and HootSuite look like they are teaming up to increase the usage of Twitter Advertising is very interesting.
HootSuite is one of the main sites I use on a daily basis and I almost never go directly to Twitter.com just because HootSuite is easier to manage multiple social networks and connect with all of my social accounts in one place.
I asked a few other HootSuite users if they received their advertising credits and they hadn’t receive it yet so I’m assuming they are rolling this out to limited users for testing right now.
Here’s the play by play:
First, check for the Preferred Twitter Customer Notification that should pop up when you login to HootSuite.
Then, feel free to watch the welcome video and info about advertising on Twitter for small businesses. For me, I’ve been using Facebook and LinkedIn ads primarily to get more leads for our social media training courses, but I’ve yet to tap into Twitter so this should be an interesting test to see how much traffic this will drive.
It took about 60 seconds to walk through their simple sign up process to claim the free $100 worth of Twitter advertising credits.
There is now an advertising tab in the HootSuite dashboard which makes it very easy to edit and check your stats once you are all set up. Here’s a shot from the navigation screen on your dashboard.
Right now, this looks like it is just a test but this could be a sign that a deeper partnership around Twitter Advertising Products is in the works.I’ll be testing this for awhile to see how much it helps my companies grow and I’ll be using it all from within HootSuite. What are your thoughts?
Do you currently use Facebook ads to get more “likes” and leads for your business? Can you see yourself using Twitter ads to get more followers and promote specific tweets? Let me know in the comments section below.
Our sponsor at GoToWebinar has even decided to let you try them out absolutely free for the first 30 days. This is The Standard for webinar platforms and it’s the one I use in my business every single week.
Without their amazing platform, my businesses wouldn’t be as profitable. That’s how powerful their platform is and I can’t say enough great things about them.
Download the book on Kindle. Read the first two chapters so you can see exactly what I’m talking about on how profitable webinars can be for anyone (even if you are terrified to speak, and have never done a webinar before).
Then, sign up for the free trial at GoToWebinar and set up your first webinar today.
Set the webinar for 7 days in the future. This will give you enough time to get through the rest of the book, start promoting using my marketing strategies, set up your slides, and get your first webinar under your belt.
It doesn’t have to be perfect… in fact, I want you to feel a little uncomfortable your first time around.

I did a design cover contest for this book on Facebook. There were a ton of designs that people submitted and many that I loved. I chose the top 3 that I liked and showed them to my top marketing affiliates. From there, they chose the winner which is this design now by a bright young man Mark Macdonald. If you are looking for a book cover, or a wordpress designer, make sure to check out Mark’s portfolio here.
The older I get, the more I realize how much more I can learn.
(I’ll talk about why this is important later in this post)
While playing professional football, however, I thought I was the smartest (and toughest) person in the world.
Boy was I wrong.
It couldn’t have been farther from the truth but I guess there is something about being young, and padding it up everyday to take on some of the meanest athletes in the world that makes you think you know it all.
It wasn’t until I got injured and retired from the game when I realized I didn’t know much about anything.
The Power of Education
To be honest, I’m not a big fan of our current education system in schools.
I had a great time at my high school and while in college, but it was more about the friends I made, the sports I played, the girls I chased, and the overall personal experiences… not as much on the classroom experience.
I don’t want to get into debate about our education system but if you want to then check out what friend Michael Ellsberg has to say about it in his book The Education of Millionaires.
Check out this video see what type of eduction I’m talking about (the powerful kind).
The education that makes the most sense to me is when you continue to educate yourself on your craft (for me it’s business, speaking, marketing, building relationships, etc) and on personal development.
It doesn’t matter how good you are at something because you can always improve and take your game to another level.
The greatest athletes in the world continue to practice harder, longer, and more deliberately than their competitors.
I spent countless hours bugging these wise individuals, asking them questions, challenging their thoughts, and offering value in any way I possible could.
I can’t thank them enough for putting up with me
I also had many mentors that I followed online.
Some I’ve become great friends with as I’d email or call from time to time for advice, while others I would simple learn by following their example. (shout out to Gary, Chris, Carrie, Seth, Tim and others who have been so helpful in many ways)
Just as the best athletes practice harder than everyone else, they also seek top coaches to take their game to the next level.
I was pretty ignorant about business a few years back, and it’s mostly due to having zero experience in the business world.
Finding a coach and mentor allowed me to learn quicker than I could alone.
Watch this video to learn more about the power of coaching for your business.
What do you think?
Do you continue to attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to improve your skills?
Do you have a mentor or a coach that guides you in the direction to achieve your goals?
Or are you just going about your days wondering why you aren’t seeing the results you desire?
