My 3 Truths + Definition of Greatness

It's time to ask myself my own questions...

Reflecting back on my top School of Greatness interviews this week has been incredible. Thank you so much for celebrating with me this milestone and for giving me your support! I couldn’t have done it without all of you.

And if you missed Episode 1,000 and 1,001, make sure to check them out! I walk through some of the inspiring and life-changing interviews of The School of Greatness history.

For today’s 5-Minute Friday episode, I want to do something special to wrap up this week of the 1,000th episode celebration.

You all know that at the end of my interviews, I always ask the guest two important questions. Today, it’s time for me to answer those questions for myself.

The first question is this:

“Imagine it’s your last day on earth, many years from now, and you’ve accomplished everything you’ve ever dreamed of. But for whatever reason, you have to take all of your content with you and no one has access to any of your information anymore. But you get to leave behind three truths – three lessons that you want to leave with the world. What would be your three truths?”

And the second is, “What’s your definition of greatness?”

I have asked these questions to hundreds of guests over the years and have received so many incredible, insightful, and inspiring answers. Each guest brings something unique and special to the table — not one answer is the same.

Today, I want to answer these questions and share my answers with you. So many people have asked me over the years to share mine, and I rarely do, but today’s the day. It’s been an incredible journey, and I still have much to learn, but I’m excited to offer these answers to you and I hope you find them empowering and applicable to your own life!

Let’s begin with the three truths.

Truth #1: Take care of your health. I am such a big believer in taking care of your health because it doesn’t matter how much money you have, how many people you know, or how successful you are if you feel sick and not your best.

Truth #2: Discover your dreams and pursue them. I love the quote by Les Brown that says, “There are so many dreams in a graveyard because so many people die with their dreams [and] they don’t at least try to go for it.” You don’t have to achieve every dream you have, but at least attempt taking a step toward them. It’s better to try and fail miserably than always live with regret because you didn’t give a shot.

Truth #3: Be in service. There have been so many people I’ve learned from on this show who have helped me and supported me in times of need. How can I give back to those people? How can I give back to this planet? Be in service to the people who matter most in your life, because the people in your life are what make it special.

Now, my definition of greatness. It’s to pursue your dreams, to discover your unique talents and gifts within you, and pursue those dreams with those talents and gifts. And during that pursuit, make sure to make an impact on as many people as possible and always give back. If you go after what you desire in your heart and you make an impact on the people around you, then that’s a pretty good life. It’s actually more than pretty good. It’s a great life.

I want to end with this. There are two people I’ve interviewed on the podcast who truly inspired me in a big way. Sean Stephenson and Kobe Bryant. Both are no longer with us. And something I learned early on is about the power of acknowledgments — telling people how you feel about them and what you see in them. So often we wait to share how we feel about someone or what we see about them until it’s too late — until we’re at their funeral.

At the end of every episode, I try my best to see the guests right in front of me and acknowledge them for the gift they are in the world at that moment. I always love that part of the episode, and I want to give you this gift today. I want you to go out there right after reading this post and tell someone that you acknowledge them. This can take ten seconds or ten minutes — but I’m telling you, the greatest gift you can give to someone is seeing them as the gift they are to you.

Thank you for joining me on this incredible journey to pursue greatness. I love you all.
