As a leader, it's your job to inspire the people around you.
A leader creates the culture in their workspace. Whether they’re a business leader, a community leader, or mentor – all leaders have a responsibility to be a positive example for the people around them.
If a boss choses to be negative, overly-critical, and unmotivated, then their employees will likely adopt the same attitude. But, if a boss choses to be uplifting, goal-orientated, and healthy, then it’s likely that their employees will follow in their example.
It’s amazing how much attitude is influenced by physical health. If your diet is struggling or you’ve fallen out of your workout routine, your capacity for productivity really does decrease. As a leader, it’s important to invest in character and knowledge, but it’s also important to invest in your physical health.
When you model a healthy and balanced lifestyle, people start to notice. They get inspired. And they follow in your example.
During this time of social distancing, we have an opportunity to start new healthy habits (exercising, organizing, self-care, prioritizing, dieting, etc.). We don’t need to aim for perfection, but we do need to aim for consistency.
For this 5-Minute Friday episode, I revisited an interview I had with Than Merrill about empowering the people you work with and starting a healthy morning routine.
“Done is better than perfect.” @ThanMerrill
Than Merrill is one of the foremost real estate investors and educators in the country. He has over 15 years of professional experience in the real estate investment and lending industry. He is the founder and principal in several real estate investment companies and has been involved in over $1 billion of residential and commercial real estate investments during that time frame.
Born in Fresno, CA, Than attended Yale University where he also played football. After graduating, Than was drafted into the NFL and played with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After football he discovered he could be as passionate about real estate investing as he was with football. He started CT Homes, LLC a real estate investing business in New Haven, CT with two of his long-time friends.
Than loves spending time with his family, wife Cindy and their two children Tyce and Sky. He currently spends most of his free time changing diapers, trying to figure out the cure for hair loss, and trying to kick his coffee habit.
Than is a great friend of mine, and I’m so excited for you to hear from him! To listen to the full interview, check out Episode 161.
