Sadly, that’s an opportunity that some of us let go by.
It’s easy to focus your attention on yourself. Maybe you’re late for work and you forget to thank the Starbucks barista who made your drink. Or maybe you arrive at work and you skip the greetings and go straight to your office because it’s going to be a stressful day.
Usually, our intentions aren’t to ignore people. Sometimes, life just gets busy and cheerful “thank you’s” and “hellos” are difficult to keep up. But it’s amazing what will happen if we take a moment to appreciate the people around us.
My guest on this 5-Minute Friday, Lee Cockerell, wants to tell you how impactful it is to recognize the importance of the people around you. And trust me, he’s got the experience.
Can you imagine being in charge of 40,000 employees?
How about running operations at Disney World?
Or traveling the world as a renowned public speaker AFTER you retire?
Lee Cockerell has done all those things plus a million others. He has not only led thousands at companies like Disney, but he has written several books on the lessons he has learned and applied through the years as a stand out leader and manager. (Surprise fact: he dropped out of college because he says he wasn’t smart enough.)
Lee has a lot of tips about leadership, hiring the right people, and managing your time wisely. But one thing stands out from the others: Lee believes in the importance of consistently showing appreciation and gratitude to the people around you.
It’s amazing how people will perform better if they feel valued. Something as simple as a genuine “hello” or “thank you” can really go a long way.
Lee wasn’t always doing this. When he began his career, he didn’t take the time to be grateful for his team. Then he learned the power of respect and self-esteem, and everything changed.
To learn more, listen to Episode 915 and find out how treating everyone with respect will not only boast your business but also give you a more positive mindset in life.
