Logan Paul

Believing in Yourself

What you say to yourself matters.

The more you say things, the more you believe them.

You have to tell yourself you will succeed.

Write it down every day.

Say it looking in the mirror.

People may look at you like you’re crazy. But the more you say it, the more they’ll start to believe it, too.

You will not get to where you want to go if you don’t believe in yourself.

That’s why, for this 5-Minute Friday, I’m sharing a conversation I had with Logan Paul whose strong belief in himself started in high school.

Logan Paul has achieved so much in such a short amount of time. He is a 23-year-old actor and internet star who started out making videos on Vine and now has an amazing 18.6 million subscribers on YouTube. He also has roles in the films The Thinning and The Space Between Us.

Logan says that having specific goals and working harder than everyone else has given him an edge over his peers.

Lewis Howes: This is 5-Minute Friday!!

We’ve got the one and only Logan Paul, this kid is 20 years old from Ohio like myself and he literally come to the scene with a vengeance and made so many people captivated by his unique talent. We’re going to dive in and talk about his unique talent today, but for those who don’t know who Logan Paul is, he’s incredibly popular on vine with over 9 million followers, built his following first then grew on YouTube, Facebook and now Snapchat. He’s one of the most watched people on Facebook last year and has appeared on law and order as well as upcoming future films that are coming out, he’s also again from Ohio and he’s only 20 years old.

Logan: I think it’s important to not only look good obviously, but something about working out and pushing yourself the way I do is like it takes you to another level, so when I’m on set and like something hard-ish.

Lewis Howes: It’s like you’ve been through this every day.

Logan: I’ve been through it every day. Like dude I was doing a scene on thinning where I had to drown, I don’t know if you knew this if you breathe in and then try to sink you don’t sink.

Lewis Howes: You float.

Logan: Yeah, you float.

Lewis Howes: So, you have to push all the air out.

Logan: You have to push the air out, they put weights on me and I’m sinking. So, I have no air in my lungs and dude it’s not like a 6 foot pool, it’s a 12 foot pool.

Lewis Howes: That’s terrifying.

Logan: Dude it was one the hardest thing I have done and I’m like very mentally strong man, but during this I was “Why is this so hard for me?”

Lewis Howes: It’s challenging.

Logan: It’s all a mental thing but again it’s just I’m so used to pushing myself so I was able to do it, but it was just difficult.

Lewis Howes: I can imagine. For most people who aren’t athletes who don’t go through the daily pain and stress that we gone through they can’t handle that.

Logan: Dude, it’s like yeah I can’t put it like you know.

Lewis Howes: You know you can’t handle what you are going through but it was like even more challenging, it gives you an edge being an athlete or athletic.

Logan: Yeah, I know the thing. So this is fight scene, well my character doesn’t throw any punches, it’s all like knees and takedowns so I wrestled and I did MMA for 4 years and I did it, again they let me do all the fight scenes which is awesome.

Lewis Howes: Amazing.

Logan: And then to answer your question furthermore, this is why I think it is so important. So every day I wake up I look myself in the mirror and say ‘I will be the biggest entertainer in the world.’ And I say that 10 times in the morning and 10 times at night right before I go to bed every single day. I have this book about the secret and it’s all about this, I mean I’m sure you read it like this will happen, I’m going to and the more you say it the more you believe it and I do believe it, I am like 100% invested in my goal of being the best entertainer in the world and nothing will stop me from getting there. That’s my goal and I make sure to do that every single day and then even when I say it now and say it in front of people like I don’t care, I am 20 years old dude in 2 years no one is going to know me as a vine star. But when you tell people I’m going to be the biggest entertainer in the world, like in the back of their minds ‘Come on.’ But the more you say it the more you believe it and the more you get used to saying it the more other people are like.

Yeah, those are like the two ritual.

Lewis Howes: So, you rather speak the secret and you started doing that after reading that?

Logan: So, I read like little bit, I think it might actually be an audiobook. I read like enough to get that and just started doing it, because in high school believe it or not I did the same thing ‘I will be more successful that anyone I know.’ Whatever that means, I will be more successful than anyone I know and now I am, I know it sounds bad but just another kid from my high school or that I knew that is like doing the stuff I am doing right now. It’s super cocky but like my goal is like ‘Hey I need to make this happen and be successful.’ I just want to accomplish my goals.

Lewis Howes: You’re not going to be successful not believing in yourself. You got to have such belief in certainty that it’s going to happen, otherwise you’re going to falter somewhere writing down every single day what you will create that day, what you’re going to become, looking in the mirror and saying this things.

Logan: So important man and you’re going to feel dumb doing it, but eventually you’ll stop feeling dumb and you look at yourself and ‘Wow, I believe this.’ And then it’s like going to happen.

Lewis Howes: its certainty and belief.

Logan: Just believe dude, that’s why my friends and I have been joking that’s why rappers who aren’t even in the game yet like I have a couple of friend rappers, they all rap like they have a million dollar but they don’t and they rap like they do and they believe it and that’s the life they want and then it happens.

Lewis Howes: What are things that you do that are non-negotiable for you that you must go workout, look in the mirror and say you’ll be the best entertainer in the world, is there anything else you do that you feel like is been crucial to your success that’s really separated you from all your peers doing this?

Logan: This is the cliché answer but again you need to hear something like 7 to 40 times actually believing it you got to work harder than anybody else, like when I work out I work out at nights so I don’t go to LA parties and popping LA parties in the club.

Lewis Howes: I don’t go to clubs, I don’t go to parties.

Logan: You’ve never been drunk?

Lewis Howes: I’ve never been drunk.

Logan: Good for you.

Lewis Howes: I am so committed to working harder to working at night to when everyone is partying sounds like you as well. Working out at night whatever it takes man.

Logan: Dude that is awesome, that is great.

Lewis Howes: So you don’t go to the parties or something like that?

Logan: Don’t go, don’t drink, don’t smoke, and don’t do any of that. I’ll go maybe on a Saturday or Sunday just because I like being social and I am not like and especially as an actor, I feel like it’s important to me just to learn and see and observed everything. But yeah workout at nights I am not distracted by LA parties.

Lewis Howes: Dude I have to come and join you at night.

Logan: Dude seriously let’s do it. But yeah it’s so important to work hard.

Lewis Howes: Consistently with that momentum right?

Logan: Yeah.
