5 Ways to Upgrade Your Mindset & Get Out of a Rut!

Are you stuck in a rut?

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all been there. It doesn’t matter how much money we have, our relationship status, or what career we have — we all experience times when we feel like we can barely put one foot in front of the other.

Sometimes, we find ourselves in ruts due to a tragedy, trauma, or a negative experience. For example, many people often find themselves in ruts after breaking up with a significant other. At the same time, though, not all ruts are caused by tragedy. Someone can be in a healthy relationship but still be stuck in a rut because they aren’t pursuing their dream career. They go to the office from 9-5, and they come home completely burnt out, with no energy to pursue meaningful work.

Take a second to evaluate where you are. You could be stuck in a rut and not even know it! Here are some questions to ask yourself:

Do I enjoy what I’m doing? Does it give me energy and purpose?

Am I actively pursuing my goals? Do I even have goals?

Am I participating in negative patterns of laziness and distraction?

Are my relationships growing or staying stagnant?

Do I have a financial mindset of scarcity or abundance?

These questions should help you discover if you’re in a rut. If you realize that you are, don’t despair — you won’t be there forever! In fact, I’m confident that this special mashup episode will give you the tools you need to get out of that rut and start living a life of purpose!

“Don’t count the number of times you get knocked down. Get attached to the number of times you get up.” - Lisa Nichols

I’ve got five incredible guests for you today, and I promise you — you’ll learn something life-changing from each of them!

Mel Robbins:

Mel Robbins is a close friend, a motivational speaker, #1 best-selling author, former CNN legal analyst, daytime talk show host, and the creator of the life-changing 5-second rule.

In 2011, Mel delivered a TEDx talk that changed lives. It was all about how to stop screwing yourself over, how to shake up your life, and demolish your comfort zones. To this day, it is one of the most-viewed TEDx talks in the world. In 2017, she published The Five Second Rule, which became an international bestseller. In this incredible self-help book, Mel gives you the tools to stop worrying, beat fear, and start living a life of happiness.

Relatable, smart, and real, Mel’s confidence-building research and fear-fighting techniques have been featured in more television shows, podcasts, magazines, and blogs than one can list. From Good Morning America to Fox News, Oprah to Dr. Phil, USA Today to The New York Times.

Mel is one of the people I trust most in moments of uncertainty, and she has this way of delivering clear and actionable guidance to improve your life today.

David Goggins:

David Goggins is a retired Navy SEAL and is the only member of the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training (including two Hell Weeks), the U.S. Army Ranger School (where he graduated as Enlisted Honor Man), and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training.

David is indisputably one of the world’s best endurance athletes. He has completed over 60 endurance races, regularly placing in the top five and taken home first place several times.

David says that if don’t give yourself a way out, your body will figure out a way to persevere.

We are capable of so much more than we know. Mental toughness isn’t a class; it’s a lifestyle.

Rich Diviney:

Rich Diviney has more than 20 years of experience as a Navy SEAL Officer. He completed more than 13 overseas deployments, achieved multiple leadership positions (including the Commanding Officer of a Navy SEAL Command), and since retirement in early 2017, has worked as a speaker, facilitator, and consultant with the Chapman & Co. Leadership Institute and Simon Sinek Inc.

During Rich’s time as the officer in charge of training for a specialized command, he reworked the selection and assessment program to identify key attributes rather than just skills. This allowed him and his cadre to more effectively, and more constructively, explain the success and failure of candidates. Most importantly, it allowed them to put together the highest performing team possible.

Additionally, he spearheaded the creation of a directorate that fused physical, mental, and emotional disciplines. He led his small team to create the first-ever “Mind Gym” that helped special operators train their brains to perform faster, longer, and better in all environments — especially high-stress ones.

Using the principles of this program, Rich has been able to work with more than five thousand business, athletic, and military leaders to teach leadership and optimal performance. And now, he’s put all that information into his new book, The Attributes: 25 Hidden Drivers of Optimal Performance. By reading this book, you’ll discover how you fit inside a team, show up for others, handle stress, challenge, and uncertainty, and how you can master your attributes for success.

Jim Kwik:

Jim Kwik is an entrepreneur, business coach, and literal genius. He is the Founder and CEO of Kwik Learning, an online brain training and learning firm where he teaches people how to get the most out of their minds. Jim suffered a brain injury at the age of five, which led to slow brain performance and left him struggling in school. As the years wore on, he undertook a journey to learn about his brain – why it was “broken” and what he could do to fix it.

That journey led him to discover different learning habits, including accelerated learning systems and tactics. He spent years training his brain for speed-reading and memory improvement. Companies like SpaceX and Virgin, owned by billionaire geniuses like Richard Branson and Elon Musk, have trained with him. He’s also trained major celebrities and political leaders such as Will Smith, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and many others.

Jim released his new book Limitless: Upgrade Your Brain, Learn Anything Faster, and Unlock Your Exceptional Life on April 28th, 2020. As a kid, Jim loved superheroes and comic books inspired him to reach for greatness, even when people told him it was impossible. Over the years, Jim unlocked his greatest superpower – his mind – and you can too.
