The Power of Belief

I’ll tell you why I want to talk about this topic first:

Growing up, I didn’t have a strong belief in myself.  I didn’t have much confidence.  I was a tall goofy kid with huge ears, buck teeth, acne, who was uncoordinated and awkward?  All I wanted was to fit in so people wouldn’t make fun of me.

Because of this, I didn’t have the confidence or the belief in myself that I wanted. It wasn’t until I really started to put the time and the energy and practice into my sports until I saw different results. The more results I got, the more confidence and belief I gained in myself.

I see so many people go through life, business, and sports with a lack of belief in themselves so I wanted to share with you my theory on this topic.

So what is it the best athletes have in common?  Tune into the episode to hear my final conclusion.

8 Ways to Build Confidence and the Power of Belief:

  1. Start with Gratitude
    • The more grateful you are, the better you feel about yourself
  2. Focus on Posture and Stand Like a Winner
    • Condition your belief and confidence in yourself
  3. Dress Clean
    • Have your personality and style, but keep it clean
  4. Walk With Purpose & Authority
    • Living in NYC teaches you this
  5. Talk With a Purpose
    • Own what you say
  6. Praise Others
    • Take the time to help others feel better about themselves
  7. Value Your Body
    • Your body is your temple
  8. Celebrate Small Wins Like You’ve Won the Super Bowl
    • Be happy with where you’re at; strive for more

Let me know your thoughts…

What are some other ways to achieve greatness beyond belief? Do you think that faith (in God or yourself) is the essential quality of a high performer? Or do you think I’m full of crap? :)  Please leave your comments below and let me know what you think.

Good morning - what a great way to start my day! I always believe we are better when we put God into it (It is everything in life.)

Thank you for the inspiration.

BELIEF!  No doubt, it's the keystone to success in anything.  Great tips, Lewis.  I have been practicing the "Focus On Posture, Stand Like A Winner."  It's a quick way to level up.  Love it.  Looking forward to the next show.

Good stuff!  I think you should let me and my friend Judy Rees (Who is an EXPERT) at discovering a persons mental strategies, etc. interview you.  She recently interviewed Tim Ferris.  Great interview!

Ah, just listened to the part of dressing clean.  The other day I put on my jeans and a nice purple shirt.  I felt like a million bucks!  I'm planning on getting some better shoes and a nic watch.

It just makes you feel better.

This is my second episode of your's I've listened to and I think you're right now. I think belief is everything. Belief spurs action in every decision. You've got some great stuff, Lewis. Keep it up!

Good stuff Lewis. I coach runners looking to take thir running to the next level, no matter where they're at now, and the mental aspect is huge. So many traits for success in business carry over to sports. I'd love to interview you sometime for the site, I'm looking to bring in non runners who have been successful outside running and helping my team use those lessons in their own life.
