The Power of Belief

I’ll tell you why I want to talk about this topic first:

Growing up, I didn’t have a strong belief in myself.  I didn’t have much confidence.  I was a tall goofy kid with huge ears, buck teeth, acne, who was uncoordinated and awkward?  All I wanted was to fit in so people wouldn’t make fun of me.

Because of this, I didn’t have the confidence or the belief in myself that I wanted. It wasn’t until I really started to put the time and the energy and practice into my sports until I saw different results. The more results I got, the more confidence and belief I gained in myself.

I see so many people go through life, business, and sports with a lack of belief in themselves so I wanted to share with you my theory on this topic.

So what is it the best athletes have in common?  Tune into the episode to hear my final conclusion.

8 Ways to Build Confidence and the Power of Belief:

  1. Start with Gratitude
    • The more grateful you are, the better you feel about yourself
  2. Focus on Posture and Stand Like a Winner
    • Condition your belief and confidence in yourself
  3. Dress Clean
    • Have your personality and style, but keep it clean
  4. Walk With Purpose & Authority
    • Living in NYC teaches you this
  5. Talk With a Purpose
    • Own what you say
  6. Praise Others
    • Take the time to help others feel better about themselves
  7. Value Your Body
    • Your body is your temple

I love the solo rounds! I've been listening to your podcast and I feel more prepared to tackle on the day because of it. I used your solo round, "The Power of Belief," to get in a mini morning workout to start off my day right. I am so thankful that you share your tips and words of encouragement and understanding with others. I appreciate that you said old negative thoughts will come back, as that's what you have taught ourselves to feel, and that's okay, we just need reminders to keep on thinking positively. Behaviors are learned, so it does take time to unlearn old habits and beliefs and break that cycle. I have shared my knowledge of your "pep talks," to others as I have seen a huge impact on my life. Thank you so much!

My spirit feels so wonderfully full of joy, listening to your podcast. Physically, it manifests with a centered energy located in the middle of my tummy that radiates all through my body and around me. Thank you for being an inspiration and somehow that of a virtual best friend. One who always has refreshing, interesting and the right things to say. Cheers ~

Awesome Podcast. I think is open and vulnerable to leave it open for the lessener to decide if one is full of shit or not, that is more than some bullshiters will ever expose themselves to, I can respect that part. Better to know upfront what we deal with in life, makes communication easier. However when we ask those questions we essentially know the answer within. I have to say for the most part I do believe that STRENGHT comes from within, what we eat or don't depends on our current state of mind. One day we are chips and salsa the next sugar, it is a matter of perspective. We see things as we are not as they are. The best part is our confidence is internal & lessening helps us identify another's perspective & the place they are coming from.

Awesome podcast!  Found it linked from the website.  This is one I will listen to more than once.

Good morning - what a great way to start my day! I always believe we are better when we put God into it (It is everything in life.)

Thank you for the inspiration.

Good stuff!  I think you should let me and my friend Judy Rees (Who is an EXPERT) at discovering a persons mental strategies, etc. interview you.  She recently interviewed Tim Ferris.  Great interview!

This is my second episode of your's I've listened to and I think you're right now. I think belief is everything. Belief spurs action in every decision. You've got some great stuff, Lewis. Keep it up!

Good stuff Lewis. I coach runners looking to take thir running to the next level, no matter where they're at now, and the mental aspect is huge. So many traits for success in business carry over to sports. I'd love to interview you sometime for the site, I'm looking to bring in non runners who have been successful outside running and helping my team use those lessons in their own life.
