passion

Fear is a funny four letter word.

It is designed to protect us from real danger in our lives (like a bear chasing us) but at the same time paralyzes us from achieving our dreams.

I believe passion is the sword of love that pierces through the wall of fears that hold us back.

Why?

When people are living from passion they tend to be fulfilled, happy, healthy and love everyone around them.  There isn’t much room to get sick, be angry or unhappy when you do something you love all day.

What if you could do what you love and make a living around that passion?

Now we’re talking!

During one of my stops at the Fox Business Studio in NYC I discuss how to live your passion (and build a 6 and 7 figure business a year) around it.

Anyone can learn to earn a paycheck and make money building someone else’s dream (and there’s nothing wrong about that).

But if you are looking to earn an income around your own dreams then watch this video and keep reading below:

When I first started out I was a bit overwhelmed.  Coming from losing my dream of playing professional football, not having a college degree at the time and looking to jump into the business world at a young age was pretty daunting for me.  However, it all became very simple at one point…

I wanted to have the flexibility to follow what I love doing every single day, and make a living around that which would set me up for the rest of my life.

During my short time playing pro football I got a taste of this life.  It was amazing.  To make money around what I loved… I couldn’t see myself living any other way.

The most passionate entrepreneurs are driven by more than just money, there driven by living a fulfilled life.

1.  Research Your Market

Knowing what the competition knows, won’t cut it, get deep. Dive in to your market and study like an expert.

2. Set a Tangible Financial Goal

I set new goals every 6 months and I always stretch my initial mark. Work backwards and figure out what you need to do each day, to get to where you want to be.

3. Create a Sharable Site

It’s great to reference some the leaders in your space, but when you are developing your own brand, it’s important to create unique content on a single hub. A site that your readers and viewers can reference back to, for more of your incredible content.  I lean on Derek Halpern who’s a pro at this.

4. Build a List

This is one of the most important tools in building a business.  As you develop your sharable site, begin building a list of emails of the people that visit your site, and continue to provide them with value. This will translate into buyers for the future launch of your product or service.

5. Launch a Product or Service you can sell

If you have a financial goal that you’ve set out for the next 6 months, then you have to sell something.  Figure out the biggest challenges your audience is facing and build something that solves their problem.

One thing to have a Work Life Balance and having your own business is that your business should have a system because if you can't let your business work on its own then it's hard to maintain your balance. I have came up with a business plan and I am going to start out of my house. Here is the thing, I don't have my 4 year degree and it is going to take me until 2018 to get it.  If I am able to start a business and manage it on my own then why would I need to acquire a 4 year degree? I mean the service that I will provide will be affordable but  if I had my for year degree then I would be more reputable. I will message you and maybe you could redirect me to a good contact person.  The great thing is my husband is so supportive of this idea and if he could take care of the house and I could work he would be all for that too.  ttyl Lewis, I have to eat something... I like you... I really do and just thanks for everything!!!!

I love helping others and watching them grow deep down in my bones! I also love meeting new people and inspiring others! I founded a Creative Marketing Studio in my small hometown and am trying to focus our efforts on local businesses while working our way out. I want to create a change in thinking where I believe it matters most to those I love!

I love helping others find new perspectives on their success. What started 6 years ago as a bittersweet journey for me personally when I was widowed as a young mom has evolved into a thriving business that allows me to live my passions every day as a speaker, bestselling author and business strategist! Sitting in a cube helping someone else live their dreams just isn't how I want to live out mine!

My passion is personal development. I left a steady job last year to earn a living speaking and training. I burned the boats and just did it! Now I earn more - and I am home more to be with my wife and kids. My wife and I started another business where we have literally helped dozens of people improve their mindset and change their lives by getting healthier. We have so much fun...we can barely get to sleep at night! Oh yeah...and my first book will be completed within the next 6 months.

Great article and tips but I find the interview segment painful to watch. She's very pretty but seems very ill prepared for the interview. I'm not trying to be mean, just being honest.

I really enjoyed this list. I think the most important thing is #4. Creating a platform, or list of poeple who are already connected to your message is the key to generating sales. It is also the best way to ensure long term success. If you launch a product without a strong platform, and the product fails, you are back to square one. However, if you have long list of loyal followers, those people with still be there, even if a product or service doesn't pan out. It allows for more creativity and risk to be taken.

Thanks again for another great article.

The best advice I Loved, came from a Managing Director, who himself is an Entrepreneur.  "Never stop churning out ideas and always follow them through even if they do not materialize.  The worst thing an innovator can do is stifle their creativity."  Get one idea done and use that success to fund your other ideas in succession.  Other people do it all the time, why should you feel less than good enough to follow your dreams and passion?  I know people who sit on multiple boards and committees, yet they would tell another individual not to be over committed it might look bad to an employer.  That is oppression, do not listen to them.

There "is" reality and then there is realizing!

I don't believe that fear is always in us, but others, holding us back with their deliberate words and actions.  It's their fear of YOU becoming successful.

Reach for your dreams and stay focused.

Fear is your friend. It tells you what you should do even when you don't want to do it. Whoever take the leap of faith and do it is able to achieve freedom.

Hey @Lewis Howes, love the information! It's funny, I just shot an Instagram video this morning on the same topic, I had no idea that your blog post was going to be very similar. All great stuff... here's the Instagram video if you want to check it out http://instagram.com/p/jJa3WWwZOf/ for yourself. Basically, what I say in the video is "Lose the fear of failing and just start on that idea or project that you've been sitting on for all these years!" Enjoy and have a great day, Brandon.

This is so on point @LewisHowes.  As soon as I started moving towards my passions, my life changed completely.  It reminds me of my favorite quote of mine, "If you spend all of your time building someone else's dream, you won't have any time left to build your own."

"Live Your Passion" can seem like such a generic and empty phrase at times, but when it comes from Lewis, it's always backed up with actionable advice. Great stuff Lewis, thank you for sharing!

Awesome!!! You are such an inspiration. Today is day 1 of my passion. Last day at job was last Friday. So glad I have you for inspiration. Can you believe all day today I kept reaching for my old corporate jobs company phone. My husband finally leaned over and said, "Honey your free....you are living your dream and yes I just pinched you and it was real".

It took me many, many years to finally be brave enough to follow my dreams and my passion. Once I did, I experienced such an unparallelled joy and inner peace like never before. I also met incredible people along the way and established deeply enriching relationships. I am now incredibly passionate and dedicated to continuing moving forward and riding the wave.

Glad you didn't have Laureen's makeup person. Isn't it amazing that she (and teevee in general) really didn't know who you are (Lewis How-Is), how good you are and what a great help to many, many people. You are way too good for that show. Always waiting to hear from you. Thanks.

Lewis, here's a challenge I've seen (and/or am facing): You work a lot for someone else and make decent money and have lots of work. You're making enough to get by but not enough to save a substantial amount any time soon. So you feel like you're stuck in no-man's land. If you stay, you've got very limited time. If you leave, you have very limited money. How do you get passed that?

@lelandfaux follow your joy. If you're brave enough to jump, all things will sort themselves out - been there. If it's too difficult to leave the security of a pay check first - find some time to work on what it is that you love/want to do every day. Drip by drip, even the largest water bowls get filled up eventually. All the best to you.
