Imagine getting fired from a position that was about to write you a 150 million dollar check.

How would you feel knowing that one decision you made lost you all of that money?

Would you let it control you and be bitter for the rest of your life, or would you learn from it and make the most of the situation?

Our next guest on the School of Greatness did this a few times. First at Google, then at Facebook.  What he did next to build multiple million dollar companies may shock you.

Welcome to episode 66 with AppSumo Sensei Noah Kagan.

Hey Lewis & Noah!

Just finished the podcast. First off...totally not what I was expecting, but exactly what I needed. Thank you for the bromantic adventure.

I know you only asked for one thing I'm doing

/have done for myself today, but I thought I'd just share a few, since my last 2 weeks have been pretty life changing (fyi large part due to the' podcast):

Bowed slowly to myself 3 times in the mirror & proclaimed "The world is a better place because I am here." Then silently vowed to live as if it were true.

Went for a walk & picked up some trash along the way

Further developing my coaching model & branding for my new confidence & life coaching business

Putting some much needed effort into the new website for my equine services business

Ceasing to procrastinate from studying statistics! (Engineering school during summer is intense)

Visualizing waking up at 5am to get pumped about continue my P90X program before bed!

Hope it's not too long, I'm just so grateful for all the inspiration and valuable knowledge I've gained since following you guys. Hope I can buy y'all a beer one day (a non alcoholic one for you Lewis ;))...probably after I turn 21 though.

All the best!

John

(YET) Another fantastic episode. Thank you Lewis for taking the time to gain access to these amazing people so that us fans (and I think it is fair to say that this podcast must have a serious number of fans by now) gain the benefit from their expertise, ideas and tips. Your questions are intelligent, well-thought out and sincere - you are the message you deliver my friend. Since I started listening to your podcast I quit my job, started a business and, in the six weeks since I launched it, I have ended up having to take on two members of staff as I was so busy. I have had A-list musicians getting in touch to see if I will work with them - what a shocker! I have never been more inspired, tired, wired, excited and motivated! I would have made the leap without the podcasts, but probably not for a few years.

I hope you know that you are changing lives with every episode.

'I appreciate you Lewis' (and coming from a reserved Brit that is a BIG compliment!)

Viva la inspiration.

Great interview! The greatest thing I did this week was to play "Engineering Day" on Sunday with my (just about) 2 year old daughter while my wife was out running with her friends. We've got 134 empty egg cartons (well, 131 now...she escaped the bathroom after bath time that night and peed on 3 of them before we could wrangle her in...but it was 134 when we were playing!)

The first step of engineering day is to gather the egg cartons from the basement, then to fold them all back together in the living room. After that, we build walls and forts and towers, then she gets to find creative ways to knock them down. After she got tired of playing, she directed me to keep building one of her towers, which by the end wound up almost reaching the ceiling and used all the egg cartons. Then she waited for Mommy to get home so she could show her how to knock it down.

It may not move my business forward, but it's always a fun day with my daughter where she gets to experience some useful skills (and gets to knock stuff over!)

@Noahkagan  - Today I started to design a better picture of what I will do to nurture myself and create a more fulfilling lifestyle.I wrote 10 specific things I enjoy and I'd like to set-up an auto process for based on what Noah mentioned about his weekly scheduled massages. I really liked the thought of doing things to treat yourself and creating a routine that will make life really buzz!

btw, @LewisHowes what was the daily meditation you mentioned doing twice daily?

Today I emailed my business plan / mission statement for the restaurant my family is opening to our potential investors. At 27 this is my first entrepreneurial endeavor and I'm quite excited. After listening to this podcast today, I felt quite excited about the future and marketing of this start up restaraunt. Thanks for your wisdom

Today I got up at 4:30 am, wrote what I am grateful for in my Five minute Journal and proceeded to do a yoga flow. Life is what we make of it, my goal is to be happy. Thank you for a great motivational podcast.

Today I allowed myself spend the morning in the kitchen and push everything else off! I absolutely love cooking and preparing my own food but sometimes I don't give myself the time to do it. Since I work on the web, it gives me a chance to work with my hands and create something tangible, and I feel better when I eat better!

Today I went for a long walk around campus while listening to this podcast. What's really funny is I chose to go for this walk just to relax, to do something for myself. I walked all around the Florida State University campus, put my toes in some grass, sat by a fountain and smiled at strangers. I love smiling at strangers. What I really enjoyed from this podcast was just the calm confidence that you had Noah. I know you're gonna be reading this. You're just very calm and centered and I find it very inspirational. Thanks for the great podcast Noah and Lewis! Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the podcasts Lewis! I've grown so much as a person from the podcasts, and listening to them were a huge part to some of my postconcusssion recovery. I've learned so much about forgiveness, love, gratitude, relationships, and life purpose, so thank you so much! Thank you Noah for coming on and teaching me new things as well. While I usually listen to the podcasts on the John in the morning, today I shook things up and listened while doing yoga, and it was very enjoyable. If Noah sees this, I want him to know that there are always positives in every situation. I realize you went to counselors and seem to be over the facebook thing, but I guarantee you'll realize that you became a much better person than you would have, and because things happened the way the did, you started a company helping other people! If you're going to work everyday and loving it, living life with purpose, and are happier than ever, money shouldn't matter (at least in my eyes). Thanks again guys! I love learning new things all the time, and I find some of the most valuable things I've learned in my life is on the show!

Today I attended my 8 yo niece's birthday party. It was a paint and play party. You paint your own pottery pieces. Didn't think I'd enjoy it but once I started painting it was lots of fun. My niece was so excited as she greeted all her friends half of whom were also classmates. She gave me the low down on each and shared funny stories about them. They were an interesting mix of ethnicities, personalities and characters. We laughed, sang, painted and ate. The hello kitty cake was delish and watching her face light up as she opened each present was so much fun. The boys and girls squealed with delight as she opened each gift. Everyone wanted her to open theirs next. I left the party smiling and thankful for such a fun relaxing time which carried over to the rest of my day. This made for a great day. Thanks Lewis and Noah for such a personal, motivating and inspirational podcast. My takeaway is that we are constantly learning, evolving, transforming and striving to do and be better. And it is important to smell the roses along the way. Thanks for your candor.

After years of believing that I couldn't sing, I sort of gave up on that dream... until recently. I'm 24, and I enrolled myself in voice lessons about 8 months ago today. For 6 months I practiced about 3 times a week.. but I wasn't really getting anywhere. The problem was that even though I was "working" on paper, I wasn't actually practicing with the intention of getting anywhere. I didn't believe that I could actually learn to sing, and so my attempts at developing the skill were half-hearted. 2 months ago I had a major mindset shift when I realized (much thanks to your show) that I was never going to get anywhere if I didn't start focusing on getting better everyday. I didn't want my life to be a half-hearted routine of checking "healthy/productive" habits off a to-do list.

So 2 months ago, I started practicing 45 minutes to an hour every day. Every day. I created a space in my bedroom where I taped a vision board to my wall. On the vision board I drew pictures that represented what I wanted my voice to sound like - pictures that represented words like fierce, brave and unapologetic. In 2 months the improvements to my voice have been amazing. My vocal coach is floored at my progress, and yesterday I auditioned for Ophelia in a production of Hamlet! My dream is to perform on broadway, and I finally feel like I'm working toward that dream in a real way.

As a college student, I've been building a platform called Learnerator for high school students to master AP exams and other standardized tests. We have over 10,000 questions all written in-house and just passed over a million questions answered by students all around the world. We want to be the next great edtech company and I hope to go full-time on it next year.

I allowed myself to take "oncall" from my night shift job at the hospital to get some sleep.  I work as a nurse on nightshift and teach nursing at our local university during the day. I crank out  60hrs/week and still usually give the "oncall" to my coworkers as I just plain work hard at every opportunity.  I'm trying to do all I can to increase my skills and ponder how I can become an entrepreneur.  Felt guilty at first but now I'm glad for taking the time out to sleep which allowed me to regain some strength and thus time to listen to Lewis's podcast.  Thank you Lewis and Noah.

I have hyperemesis gravidarum (complication in pregnancy) and its keeping me grounded and barely functioning.  I'm bootstrapping everything as I'm on a 5 yr student loan payment schedule and today while I was complaining about not being able to go out for fruits, a friend suggested I just order from Peapod. I immediately said no, because of cost. However, when I factored in gas, the hassle of getting the kids ready (assuming I'm functional and can move), drive to the store, find what I need, get the bags and the kids back in the car, drive home, find parking and go up 3 flights of stairs with the groceries and the kids, that $10 delivery fee is a freaking bargain!

That's what I'm doing for myself if I can have it delivered I am.

Hi Lewis and Noah,

Today I woke up at 5am to work on my biz before work at 7:30. I also used this time to practice gratitude and meditate... And I'm also planning my trip to visit Noah again unexpectedly (kidding) :)
