"Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.” - Joseph Campbell
Click to Tweet Click to ShareThere are two 2 types of pain.
The pain that poisons you and the pain that propels you.
Today for 5 Minute Friday, I want to cover how to overcome the kind of pain that poisons you.
These are simple tips, but they’ve made a huge difference in how I deal with pain.
- Be aware of it
- Workout
- Breath and meditate
- Express your gratitude
What are you struggling with right now? I’d love to hear your thoughts after listening to Episode 375.
Lewis,
My pain and poison that is my biggest struggle right now is making a big move out of Cali to Flordia for a great opportunity but I’m afraid I’ll lose my ex forever . I am grateful for this opportunity but scared at the same time. I know I need to go so I love listening to your words to keep me on track and thinking positive about my personal growth. I agree 100% with Jackie Warner, “when in doubt work out “. Thank you once again and have a blessed day.

Hi Lewis,
What I understand from 2013 till 2016 is that
Worrying
is a bad thing
But fear is a good thing;
If you want to solve any unsolvable issue try to
Convert it from worry to fear
Cause fear is a good thing
If you want to be healed
You have to know that the reason of pain is
Guilt,
If you forget all those guilt recepies that others tries to push you
Then all those pains will be faded
And
Try to ask God to give all those good things that you want to offer to the world COMPLETELY,
NOT 1/2, 2/3, or (2/5)
But complete
In another word try to ask nothing less than complete and try not to do less than completed,
And also
Believe that only and only ” GOOD INTENTION ” is the key to any Success,

Muaaaah
Love,
Knows the way
Shows the way
Is the way
Feels the way
Heals the way
And makes the way
Love is the way,
Try to be with the person with the same faith,
;).
Great tips.
Amazing how one can use the energy of pain, and turn it into something creative, and productive. Especially though hard physical workout.
Awesome 5 minute Friday Lewis. Thank you!
Quite poignant. My situation isn’t much different than everyone had experienced at some point. Was broken up with after 7 years of a beautiful, nearly perfect relationship, never an argument or disagreement. No real reason given. No opportunity to defend myself or the relationship. After 3 years of school I should be graduating in 4 months. School was the only reason given for the break up, because I was to devoted to it; I wasn’t even given the chance to adjust my schedule or work on that. The only thing I do now is work and go to the gym. I pretty much resent school, yet I still try a little. My past is haunting, my present is filled with demons. My future is gone. All the plans for after graduating done. My smile is a lie.
The four agreements! Just finished reading it. Thank you so much for the referral. Anything else?
This really hit home for me as I’m adjusting to life living in a new country. It’s been challenging, and I can feel the pull to let it poison me. The loneliness can be crippling and it can make me doubt myself. But my husband and I CHOSE this move, we CHOSE to put ourselves in a challenging situation so we can grow. Sometimes we want to see the reward of that choice faster than it’s ready to reveal itself. There is no destination. THIS is the pain and struggle I need to walk through to propel myself forward to whatever might be next for me. Thank you!!
Part of my struggle comes from a fear of exposing myself to others. I wrote this after listening to this episode. I feel that the best way to overcome it is to face it head on so I’m sharing this. Thanks for all the inspiration Lewis. https://livefastdineslow.com/2016/09/07/overcoming-fear/

I am never happy. We are doing well. Grown the business to £200k turnover.
Have a new baby
Getting married
But I am never happy
Pissed off at the amount of VAT we pay
I want the business to be bigger and bigger so never satisfied
I have a son who lives in a different country and his mom makes it so hard to speak to him.
I’m angry and I wish I wasn’t
I should be happy and proud of what we have
How can you help me Lewis?
Regards
Steve
I have spent over 18 years living in chronic pain. While I still have to deal with the pains, agony, sufferings, and challenges as everyone else in life. Not knowing how you are going to feel when you wake up in the morning can make even an average day challenging.
I have spent the last several years attempting to learn how to live differently. Teaching others that pain is not a death sentence, we simply need to look at life from a different angle.
Thanks Lewis for your honest and direct approach. Your four steps were a good reminder of what we need to do in the face of pain and suffering.
Cheers,
Eric
My struggles right now are overwhelming me and causing me anxiety and lots of anger. I feel dumped on at work. I feel like nobody is listening or understand what I’m saying or what is happening. My daily work environment is stressful and out of control. I was deceitfully denied what I had earned due to my seniority.
(6 wks ago I had my 4th miscarriage and I was able to work through that by accepting it and learning why my body miscarries) I started by crying on my drive home, then lose of appetite along with insomnia, then I developed chest pain.
This has taken a toll my health after a month… and currently on Stress Leave.
I have allowed my pain to poison me!
I know where my pain comes from
I have been working out
but I have forgotten to breathe & mediate
most of all to be thankful for the wonderful things I do have in my life.
I replay and replay you podcast and contemplate what you have to say.
Thank you for doing what you do.
I know I will be fine but I have some work to do before I get there.
